Gosh I can't believe how long it's been since I posted and then the other day I was going to and I lost my diary!
Anyway, we woke up this morning in Harihari's local pub. It was a bit basic but comfortable and the pub meal was good. It was fun being in a local, listening to the stories and seeing photos and notices from the community. The owner recommended we go to the Wild Food Festival at Hokitika. He said it got really busy in the afternoon so we thought we should get there early.
We filled up the car at a servo and I had to laugh because the console operator asked where we were going. When I said we were heading to Hokitika to the Wild Foods Festival he said I should try the mountain oysters. I just burst out laughing, he obviously thought I didn't know what they were. If you don't know either, have a close look at the photos here!

We arrived at Hokitika and had breakfast in a cafe. It was really busy because a lot of people come for the whole weekend on festival weekend. After brekkie we had a wander around the town. It's a gorgeous little seaside place and had quite a few nice shops including jade shops. I bought a jade necklace :) It's unpolished and I love that look. Then we went into the food festival. My goodness, lucky I have photos to show because words can't describe it!! LOL.
In the fish tank are live grasshoppers and the end result is on the right. Deep fried grasshoppers!
